Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that uses light energy to remove unwanted hair. The light source heats and destroys hair follicles which in turn, disrupts hair growth. Common treatable areas include the face, underarms, legs, arms and bikini. There are 2 types; Laser and IPL.
Laser is versatile and able to treat all skin types. It features targeted energy directly destroying hair follicles. Nd:YAG, the most commonly recognised as safe and effective in darker skin works deep within the skin effectively avoiding damage to the skin’s surface. This makes Nd:YAG an optimal choice in treating coarse terminal hair for all clients. Other lasers systems can be used to target finer hair.
IPL heats and destroys hair follicle but operates differently to Laser. IPL interacts with the skin at the surface. Melanin absorbs light energy. This absorption can make IPL in darker skin feel hot, uncomfortable and lead to burns or pigmentation changes. For IPL to be safe in darker skin, the energy can be lowered. This method may protect the skin from damage but can become too low for hair removal to occur effectively. IPL energy is not as targeted as laser and is often considered inferior when it comes to hair removal.

Electrolysis – permanent hair removal in men and women
Electrolysis is a method of removing individual hairs from the face or body. Electrolysis devices destroy the growth centre of the hair with chemical and heat energy. After a very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, the hair is removed with tweezers.
Most areas of the body can be treated with electrolysis, including the eyebrows, face, abdomen, thighs, breasts, and legs. There are generally no permanent side effects, but sometimes a temporary rash-like irritation can occur in sensitive skin.
To compare, laser hair removal treats clusters of hair at once making it time effective with much quicker results. Laser is not permanant and may require maintenance topups. Electrolysis treats one hair follicule at a time but is a permanant hair removal method. Electrolysis can work particarly well on smaller areas such as the face for this reason.

How it works

IPL Skin Rejuvenation – treats sun damage, age spots, solar lentigines, rosacea, lines & wrinkles
Photo-Rejuvenation can be used to treat a combination of vascular and pigmentation conditions, however, the primary function of photo rejuvenation is to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The stimulation of fibroblasts, improves the tone and texture of the skin giving the skin an overall glow. Treatments are not to be carried out less than three weeks apart to allow for skin recovery. It is recommended a course of 3-5 treatments for maximum result. Maintenance can be ongoing, depending on client preference and budget.
Chemical Peel face – treats oily or acne skin, uneven skin tone, scarring, congestion, lines and wrinkles.
A chemical peel is a safe and effective skin-resurfacing and regenerative procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to skin to peel away the top layers. The skin which grows back after a chemical peel is smoother, brighter and younger-looking. Chemical peels are used to treat pigmentation irregularities, uneven skin texture, oily or acne skins, scar tissue and signs of ageing.

Peels are used typically on the face although treatment may be provided to other areas of the body such as the neck, chest, hands, legs, arms and back. A chemical peel can be done alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures such as microneedling. Chemical peels vary in their depth of penetration from very superficial, to superficial and then to medium with deep peels being confined to a surgical procedure. The choice of which peel will be used on your skin will depend on your skin condition and your desired results.
How it works
A peel treatment is a relatively quick procedure taking between 20 – 30 minutes in total. The peel is painted onto your skin in a very fine layer and left on for between 30 seconds and 5 minutes. After the given time your peel will be neutralized and removed. Peels should not be painful but you may experience some level of discomfort depending on your personal sensitivity threshold. Sensations vary from a mild tingling sensation, to pins and needles and heat.
Peel treatments carried out professionally are very safe procedures which carry minimal risk of adverse skin reactions. Depending on the intensity and depth of your peel you may experience light flaking of the skin for 2 -3 days with a superficial peel and this will increase to more extensive sheathing for 3 -5 days for deeper peels. Downtime will discussed during consulation to ensure that you are completely happy with the nature of the treatment.
Micro-needling – treats acne, uneven skin tone, congestion, scarring, stretch-marks & signs of ageing
Micro-needling is a skin regeneration treatment which may also be known as dermal rollering, skin needling or Collagen Induction Therapy. It is a technique, which triggers the healing mechanisms of the skin to naturally induce new skin tissue production as a means of addressing stretch-marks on the body and the skin ageing process.
The development of new collagen, elastin and the water-retaining hyaluronic acid is stimulated in the dermis to create a firmer more youthful skin tone while the cells of the epidermis are equally regenerated giving the complexion a finer and smoother texture. In addition, this treatment will reduce pigmentation, fortify a thin, reactive skin, reduce congestion in oily types, reduce acne and acne scarring and generally revitalise tired, lacklustre skin.
How it works
A topical local anaesthesia will be applied to your skin in order to make the treatment very comfortable. This will be left on your skin for 30 – 45 minutes and the effects of this numbing cream will last about one hour thereafter. The roller procedure itself is relatively quick, taking approximately 30 minutes in total. You will experience sensations from a mild pressure to a prickling sensation and heat. Levels of discomfort are carefully monitored in order to adjust the treatment within your tolerance.

Advanced Electrolysis – Treats Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra, Skin tags, Milia, Viral Warts & Red Veins
Non-Surgical Blemish Removal is a very safe, effective, and quick procedure involving the removal of: Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra, Skin tags, Milia, Hairy Moles and Viral Warts using electrical currents. Vascular lesions such as Telangiectasia (red veins), Spider Naevi and Blood Spots are also effectively treated.
Commonly known as advanced electrolysis it has traditionally been carried out by beauty therapists who have initially qualified in electrolysis hair removal and then moved into this area of advanced practice. However, with the rapid growth of the clinical aesthetic industry, these treatments are now carried out by aesthetic doctors, nurses, dentists or those with other suitable clinical backgrounds.
How it works
The treatment uses a Short Wave Diathermy electrical current which passes heat into the skin. This cauterises the tissue to seal surface blood vessels or to lift away excessively keratinised lesions.
For the removal of Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra, viral warts and skin tags the short wave diathermy current cauterizes and cuts through the tissue with its subsequent removal. The blood supply to nourish any further growth of the lesion is sealed off and the blemish will heal fully within a few days to a couple of weeks leaving minimal, if any, marking at all to the skin. The permanent removal of these lesions is generally achieved in one or possibly two treatments depending on their size
Milia are treated by short wave diathermy only. The fatty content of these lesions is vaporised and the milia will clear without marking the skin. If the dry skin conditions are not addressed or regular exfoliation is not undertaken, these lesions can reoccur.
Telangiectasia or thread veins are skin capillaries which have lost their ability to constrict back into the skin are like the fine twigs on the branches of a tree the blood is merely diverted to an alternative ‘branch’ or capillary and the blood supply to the tissues remains fully functional. The same techniques are used for spider naevi and cherry angiomas or blood spots. The removal of thread veins with advanced electrolysis is generally permanent but further damaged vessels can arise subsequently to take their place depending on the skin condition and the extrinsic and intrinsic factors which influence the skin’s sensitivity.

What does the treatment involve? Does it hurt?
A very fine needle probe is used to pass the heat of the electrical current into the tissue. This is so fine and localized that only the smallest amount of discomfort is experienced and for most people there is very little discomfort.
For a few days the area treated will be sensitive, show a little swelling and for the deeper lesions there may be scabbing. Provided that the correct aftercare instruction is followed and no infection is allowed to develop, the risks of any scarring are minimal.
